meet the coach Brian Willingham

Brian Willingham is a certified life coach with the Certified Life Coach Institute, dedicated to guiding individuals through aging, life transitions, leadership development, and essential life skills. His coaching is deeply informed by decades of service, spiritual leadership, and community engagement.
He is the Pastor and Founder of People of Christ Ministries and serves as a hospice chaplain with Swan Hospice, where he specializes in end-of-life spiritual counseling and case management. Brian’s pastoral journey began with the United Methodist Church, where he was trained at the United Methodist Theological Seminary and served faithfully as a United Methodist pastor.

Before entering ministry, Brian spent years as a Flint Police Officer, focusing on community policing and public safety. His commitment to justice and healing led him to author the award-winning book Soul of a Black Cop, and his voice has reached national audiences through a published New York Times Op-Ed and a feature in the Netflix documentary Flint Town.

Brian’s dedication to service earned him the President’s Volunteer Service Award from President George W. Bush in 2007. He has also served as a Community Safety Consultant with the Greater Flint Boys and Girls Club, helping shape safer environments for youth and families.

A proud U.S. Army veteran, Brian served as a sergeant in Germany during the historic fall of the Berlin Wall, where he was trained in leadership and resilience—qualities that continue to define his work today.
